19/04/2005 · PDF’s used to display correctly within firefox using Adobe Reader 7.0 (the free reader). However, recently I have also installed Adobe Acrobat Professional (the expensive editor). Since then, firefox uses Adobe Acrobat Professional to open PDFs. The PDFs are displayed correctly in firefox, but since it uses Acrobat Pro, it is displayed a little bit slower.
If you are using IE you need to make sure both of the addins for Adobe Reader are enabled because they are what allows the PDFs to automatically open when you click on a link. Whether they open in the browser or in Reader depends on how you have them configured in the Adobe Reader settings.

the Adobe Reader addon has 2 components which must be enabled (Tools>Manage Addons) if you want PDF documents to open in IE (not recommended). for consumer questions about IE select the Help>Online Support menu from IE and follow the links for your windows and ie versions.

2/12/2017 · Now those 2 computers cannot open PDF files in the Internet Explorer 11 browser. Adobe Reader opens PDFs just fine from the desktop (not using a browser). The Adobe Reader DC Add-on is “enabled” in Internet Explorer.

Resetting Internet Explorer options seems to fix it for half an hour or so and then it starts up again. This seems to only be happening to people on Acrobat Reader DC (most of our employees). This could help to use the Adobe Reader activex control even if it is not registered in the system (i.e. not available in IE) by simply referencing it from the XML manifest so it will be available for your app only as it were registered globally. It is possible to do with flash player control but need to try with Adobe Reader to make sure it works for it as well.
